The Armed Forces of Ukraine have identified the Ukrainian soldier who was shot dead for the phrase "Glory to Ukraine". This is a fighter of the 163rd battalion of the 119th separate brigade of territorial defence of the Chernihiv region, Oleksandr Matsiyevsky. His body was handed over to his relatives as part of the exchange of the dead.

On December 30, 2022, Matsiyevsky together with his comrades-in-arms fought the Russians near Soledar, after which nothing was known about their fate. How Matsievsky was taken prisoner is unknown.

Before the war Alexander Matsiyevsky had been working as an electrician in Kiev, when the war had started, he had enlisted as a volunteer in the territorial defence of Nizhyn in Chernigov region.

Matsiyevsky was identified by his mother and son, as well as other members of the defence forces.

A video of the shooting appeared on the internet on 6 March. In the video, an unarmed man stands by a dug-up trench and says: "Glory to Ukraine". Behind the scenes, another man says: "Shoot him" (kill him) and the soldier is shot.
