The museum presented materials related to the activities of the first mayor of Luhansk, prominent representatives of the local intelligentsia, namely doctors, teachers and philanthropists. The library was a particularly valuable asset, with more than 12,000 volumes. At present, the museum's collection comprises more than 50,000 items.

Until 2014, when Russian armed forces invaded the east of Ukraine - Donbas. In July of that year, a Russian shell hit the museum's window. As a result, its facade and interior were severely damaged.

In the early 2000s, the Luhansk Drama Theatre staged 300 performances a year and attracted more than 75,000 spectators.

In the spring of 2022, the Luhansk Drama Theatre lost its home once again. During Russia's large-scale war against Ukraine, the Russians deployed huge military resources to capture the entire Luhansk region. For four months, the defenders of Sievierodonetsk held the line under relentless shelling by enemy Russian aircraft and artillery. The city has changed beyond recognition. The theatre building, in the basement of which the townspeople were hiding from the bombardment, was destroyed. Due to the occupation of the city and constant shelling, the fate of these people is still unknown.

The construction of St Nicholas Church began in 1907, and on Easter 1909, its bells rang and the first service was held. But in 1936, the church was closed because the Soviet government began to impose a policy of state atheism. The Komsomol members, representatives of the Communist Youth Union, removed two domes from the church, smashed the bells, and burned church items and books. Until 1941, it was a grain warehouse and a stable.

In the summer of 2022, the town's community was going to celebrate the 115th anniversary of the church. Back in early February, they did not know that the vast majority of residents would be forced to leave their town with its ancient church. After two months of fierce fighting, almost no buildings remained in Popasna.

During the Ukrainian Revolution in 1917-1921, it was a military hospital, in 1923 the building was used for the educational needs of a plant, and in 1977 the Lysychansk Multidisciplinary Gymnasium was opened. It became one of the exemplary educational institutions in Luhansk Oblast and was ranked among the top 100 best Ukrainian schools, providing its students with a quality education for admission to the most prestigious universities in Ukraine.

Before
The building of the gymnasium survived two world wars, the battle for the city during Russia's armed aggression in eastern Ukraine in 2014, but was destroyed during a full-scale Russian attack in 2022. On 1 May, a fire broke out in the gymnasium as a result of targeted shelling, and the fire completely destroyed the century-old architectural monument.
