The Oles Honchar Kherson Regional Universal Scientific Library is one of the largest information and cultural centres in southern Ukraine. The library's book depository is designed to store 1 million 200 thousand volumes.

According to Oleksandr Prokudin, the head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, the shelling caused significant damage to the library and a fire broke out. The State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported that while extinguishing the fire in the library, the Russian military struck again. Rescuers had to return several times to extinguish the fire.
