Before Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Oleksandr was a writer, author of detective novels about alternative history, and was involved in the regional branch of Plast. He spent six months under occupation. Eventually, he managed to leave for Vinnytsia, from where he joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine, although he had no experience of military service.
