Since 2020 Yaroslav Dronov has been performing under the stage name Shaman. According to Yaroslav, this pseudonym was given to him by fans who called the performer so in comments. Then he also began to wear dreadlocks. In his opinion, "it's a chip that gives the eye a chance to get caught on the performer". Lyrics and music of songs are written independently. His songs intertwine modern musical motifs with elements of ethnic vocals.

On 22 July 2022, in the midst of the large-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, Shaman released a music video for the song "I am RUSSIAN", which gathered one million views on YouTube in the first 24 hours, and more than 10 million in the first month. Music critic Pavel Rudchenko attributed the success of the music video to its timely premiere. The song and music video were actively used by Russian propaganda. 

On 18 August 2022, Shaman performed at the Tavrida forum in temporarily occupied Crimea. On 22 August, on the Day of the State Flag of the Russian Federation, he performed the Russian National Anthem in Crimea; the performance received many views online.
