Mykhailo Vershinin

Mykhailo Vershinin is a Ukrainian police officer, entrepreneur, volunteer, Major of the National Police of Ukraine, and a participant in the Russian-Ukrainian war. Knight of the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi, III class (2022).

Biography

Mykhailo Vershinin was born on 22 September 1973 in Donetsk.

He worked as a private entrepreneur.

In 2014, he voluntarily joined the Right Sector. During the ATO, he took part in the defence of Donetsk airport.

In 2015, he joined the Patrol Police of Mariupol, and later became the Head of the Main Department of the National Police of Ukraine in Donetsk Oblast.

As of 2017, he was the head of the Mariupol Patrol Police. In 2020, Mykhailo was to be removed from office due to a scandal involving several of his subordinates. For the first time in the history of the Ukrainian police, city residents initiated an open appeal to the leadership of the Patrol Police Department demanding that Vershinin be retained in his position.

At the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, he stood up to defend Mariupol and was wounded.

On 21 September 2022, he was released from Russian captivity.


Awards

The Order of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi, III class (17 May 2022) - for personal courage and selfless actions in the defence of state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, loyalty to the military oath;

Medal "To the Defender of Ukraine" (28 March 2022) - for personal courage and selfless actions in the defence of state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, loyalty to the oath of allegiance.
