Serhiy Kaznadiy lived in the town of Balta, Odesa region. "He joined the Hospitallers in 2022 and has since saved dozens of wounded. On 20 May, the man would have turned 45.

The Hospitallers is a Ukrainian volunteer medical battalion that has been involved in the Russian-Ukrainian war in Donbas since 2014. It provides first aid, pre-medical care and evacuation of wounded Ukrainian soldiers from the hottest spots on the frontline. Its motto is "For the sake of every life!".

Since its inception, the Hospitallers have rescued about 2,750 Ukrainian soldiers during the Russian-Ukrainian war.
