On the night of July 9, 2022, a missile strike was launched by the Russian armed forces against a dormitory and houses in the town of Chasov Yar. The strike partially collapsed a five-storey dormitory, completely destroying two of its entrances, and severely damaging another five-storey apartment building. Forty-eight people were killed. A total of 323 rescuers were involved in the search operations. Some 525 tonnes of rubble were removed. The event has all the hallmarks of a war crime, but Russia is claiming fake news from Ukraine. They said the houses were military warehouses and ammunition for new US howitzers.
