Ukrainian cities under Russian shelling. Shells and rockets hit not only military facilities, but also residential buildings and city squares. Among the cities hardest hit is the predominantly Russian-speaking and once rather pro-Russian Kharkiv.

In the early days of the invasion, Kharkiv, in eastern Ukraine, fought off a Russian armored column. Since then, it has been subjected to nighttime airstrikes and artillery fire from Russia, killing dozens of civilians and wounding hundreds.
