Dmytro Kotsiubailo, commander of the 1st Brigade "Da Vinci Wolves", was killed in fierce fighting for Bakhmut

Dmytro Kotsiubailo, nicknamed "Da Vinci", was a Ukrainian soldier, the first volunteer to be awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine during his lifetime. From the age of 18, he defended our land from the Russian occupiers.

Dmytro Kotsiubaylo was born on 1 November 1995 in the village of Zadnistrianske, now Burshtyn community, Ivano-Frankivsk district, Ivano-Frankivsk region, Ukraine. He graduated from the Bovshiv secondary school and the Ivano-Frankivsk Art Lyceum. He was an active participant of the Revolution of Dignity.

Participant of the Russian-Ukrainian war, in particular, a platoon commander of volunteers (2014) and a company (2015). In 2014, he was seriously injured in Pisky, Donetsk region, and returned to the front after recovery.

On 17 March 2016, he was appointed commander of the 1st separate assault company "Da Vinci Wolves" of the Air Force, reformatted into a battalion. On 7 March 2023, Dmytro was killed in the battles for Bakhmut, as reported by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi, who called Dmytro Kotsiubailo a "man-symbol" and "man of courage".
